PowerBilt Teams Up with High School Golf Coaches to Select
All-America Teams and Players of the Year
The National High School Golf Coaches
Association (NHSGCA) and PowerBilt Golf have launched a new, national awards
program to recognize and honor high school golfers. The first winners of The
PowerBilt All-America Teams and Players of the Year – for both boy and girl
high school golfers – will be for the 2004-05 seasons.
“The establishment of a national awards program for high school golfers has
been one of the primary goals of our association,” said Michelle Pond,
NHSGCA executive director. “We are grateful to PowerBilt Golf for making
this program a reality.”
PowerBilt Golf’s president, Larry Edlin, said, “We believe it’s important to
support the coaches. They work tirelessly, and often as not, with little
recognition, to help America’s young people master disciplines, play by the
rules, build self-esteem and pursue excellence. We are especially impressed
by the criteria the coaches set forth for nomination.”
Criteria for nomination and selection include playing ability, academics,
citizenship and extra-curricular activities. Only NHSGCA member coaches can
nominate players for the awards.
All-Section team first step to All-America
An All-Section team will be selected from each of the eight NHSGCA sections.
Each team will consist of five players. A total of 80 players (40 boys and
40 girls) will be chosen. The PowerBilt All-America team will be selected
for both boys and girls from this pool of players. Each team will consist of
10 players. Finally, one boy and one girl will be selected from the
All-America teams and honored as PowerBilt Players of the Year. Although the
awards will be presented after the spring season, players from both fall and
spring seasons are eligible for nomination awards.
PowerBilt Golf is a division of Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Since 1916, H&B/PowerBilt
Golf clubs have won over 100 PGA and worldwide events including eight
majors.
The NHSGCA is a non-profit professional association for high school golf
coaches. The mission of the association is to provide educational programs
and services for high school golf coaches. For more information about the
NHSGCA and the PowerBilt awards call 913/236-8311 or go to www.nhsgca.org.
