NHSGCA PowerBilt Players of the Year
Matt Savage of Louisville, Kentucky, and Amanda Blumenherst of Phoenix, Arizona, are the inaugural NHSGCA PowerBilt Players of the Year for boys and girls high school golf. They are among 30 boys and girls honored as All-Americans and Players of Achievement. Savage played for St. Xavier High School, which won two State team championships and four regional team championships during his tenure. Matt was a state individual champion, a regional individual champion and a three-time All-State selection during his career. He was named Mr. Golf of 2004 and American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Sportsman of the Year in 2004. Off the course, Matt volunteers for Kosair Children’s Hospital Adult Day Care and is an instructor for Urban Golf League. Blumenherst, who was ranked second in the Golfweek junior girls rankings as of July 19, played for Xavier College Preparatory and helped her team win state championships all four years. She is a two-time state individual champion, a four-time regional individual champion and two-time state player of the year. Amanda also was named Arizona’s Female High School Senior Scholar/Athlete of the Year for 2005. Amanda has been a member of the Big Sister program and an AJGA Board of Directors’ Player Representative. She is a member of the National Honor Society. The NHSGCA PowerBilt Awards are selected by section representatives of the National High School Golf Coaches Association. The awards are based on playing ability, academics, citizenship (community activities), and extra-curricular activities (additional school activities). PowerBilt Golf is a division of Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Since 1916, H&B/PowerBilt Golf clubs have won over 100 PGA and worldwide events including eight majors. The NHSGCA is a non-profit professional association for high school golf coaches. The mission of the association is to provide educational programs and services for high school golf coaches.
