Carpenter and Dansby Named

NHSGCA Players of the Year

Alex Carpenter of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Rachael Dansby of Lubbock, Texas, were named 2007 NHSGCA Players of the Year for boys and girls high school golf. This is the third year of the awards program, which honored 26 boys and girls as All-Americans and Players of Achievement.

Carpenter led Arkansas Baptist to the 4A state championship in 2006. He also won the individual championship last year. Alex has earned All-State honors twice. During the summer of 2006, he won numerous tournaments including the Medicus Postseason Junior at Alexandria, which was conducted by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). Alex is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club. He has done volunteer work with the homeless and with Operation Christmas Tree. Alex is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Future Business Leaders of America.

This past spring, Dansby helped Lubbock Christian School win the 4A district and state championships. She was the individual district champion and runner-up at the state championship. She has earned All-State honors three times and was an NHSGCA All-American last year.  Rachael shot a career low round of 65 in 2007. A member of the National Honor Society, Rachael has tutored other students in chemistry, geometry and algebra. She was junior class vice-president in 2006-07 and president of 4-H. She is a talented musician and singer.

The NHSGCA  Awards are selected by section representatives of the National High School Golf Coaches Association. The awards are based on playing ability, academics, citizenship (community activities), and extra-curricular activities (additional school activities).

The NHSGCA is a non-profit professional association for high school golf coaches.  The mission of the association is to provide educational programs and services for high school golf coaches.
